Delete your account
This page explains how to delete your My Portfolio account and the information held with it. My Portfolio is published by Emerald Websites, ABN 68 410 407 820, of Emerald, Queensland.
There are two ways to do it. You can do it yourself inside the app, or you can email us and we will do it. Both remove the same things.
Before you start: cancel your subscription first
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription. Those are billed by Apple or Google, not by us, and we cannot cancel one for you.
If you are paying for one, cancel it first, then delete. If you delete first, the billing keeps running until you cancel it at the store.
Delete it yourself, in the app
- Open My Portfolio and sign in.
- Tap your profile icon, at the top right of the home screen.
- Scroll down the Profile page to Delete Account. It sits just above Log Out.
- Tap it, then tap Delete Profile in the box that appears.
If it has been a while since you last signed in, the app will not delete anything yet. A message appears at the bottom of the screen asking you to sign in again first. Log out, sign back in, and repeat the steps above. That is a safety check, not a fault.
If you tap Delete Profile and nothing at all seems to happen, do not assume it worked. Sign in again and check. If your figures are still there, email us and we will do it for you.
Ask us to delete it, by email
You do not need the app to delete your account. If you have uninstalled it, changed phones, or cannot sign in, email us instead.
- Email hello@myportfolioapp.com.au
- Put "Delete my account" in the subject line.
- Send it from the email address on the account, so we can tell it is you.
If you can no longer send email from that address, say so in your message. We will work out another way to confirm the account is yours before we delete anything.
We reply within two business days. We complete the deletion within seven days of confirming the account is yours, and we email you when it is done.
How to cancel your subscription
Subscriptions to My Portfolio are sold and billed by Apple and Google, not by us. They sit in your App Store or Google Play account, not in your My Portfolio account. Deleting your My Portfolio account does not touch them. Only you can cancel one, from your own store account.
On an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap My Portfolio, then Cancel Subscription.
You can also do this in a browser at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.
On Android
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon, at the top right.
- Tap Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
- Tap My Portfolio, then Cancel subscription.
You can also do this in a browser at play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions.
Cancelling stops the next payment. If what you bought was a one-off purchase rather than a subscription, there is nothing to cancel.
Nothing on this page limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, including your right to ask for a refund where a consumer guarantee has not been met.
What gets deleted
- Your sign-in record. Your email address and password stop opening an account. We never see your password.
- Your portfolio and everything in it, if you are the only person in it: every asset, liability, income source and expense, including the names, notes, property addresses and account names you typed alongside them.
- Your membership of any portfolio you share. Your name and email come out of it.
- Anything still held under the older version of the app's layout — the assets, liabilities, income, expenses and portfolio figures it saved. An account created on the current version does not have these.
- Invitations you sent, whether or not anyone accepted them, and invitations sent to your account's email address.
There are no bank connections to disconnect. My Portfolio has never had them. Every figure in it was typed in by hand.
What does not get deleted
We would rather tell you this than let you assume otherwise.
- Purchase and receipt records held by Apple and Google Play. Those belong to your store account and we cannot reach them.
- The record held by RevenueCat, the service that checks whether a subscription is active. Ask us and we will request its deletion.
- Short-term backup copies of the database, kept by Google Cloud so the data can be restored after a failure. Deleted records can sit in those copies until they age out. We do not use a backup to bring back data someone asked us to delete.
- Our server logs, including sign-in records. They note that an account was deleted and when, against an internal identifier. They do not contain your figures. They are kept for a limited period and then removed.
- Emails you have sent us. They stay in our mailbox unless you ask us to delete them too, which you can do in the same message.
- Anything we have to keep for tax or consumer law reasons, such as correspondence about a refund.
- The copy already on your own phone. While the app is installed it keeps an offline copy of your figures so it works without a signal. Delete the app as well if you want that copy gone.
If you used Sign in with Apple
Deleting your account here does not by itself stop Apple sharing your sign-in with the app. To remove that as well, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Sign-In and Security, then Sign in with Apple, then My Portfolio, and choose Stop using Apple ID.
If you share a portfolio with someone
A portfolio can have more than one person in it, so that a couple sees the same household figures. What happens on deletion depends on which one you are.
If you own the portfolio and someone else is still in it
The portfolio and its figures stay. They are that person's household records too, and deleting them because you left would take their data away without their asking. You come off the portfolio, your name and email come out of it, and ownership passes to whoever has been a member the longest.
If you want the figures gone as well, remove the other members from the portfolio first. Once you are the only one left, deleting your account deletes the portfolio and everything in it.
There is no way to hand a portfolio to someone else on purpose. Ownership only ever moves by itself, when the owner deletes their account and other members remain.
If you were invited into someone else's portfolio
Deleting your account takes you off that portfolio. Your name and email come out of it. The figures stay with the owner, including anything you added while you were a member, because they are the owner's household records rather than yours to take away.
If you want something you entered removed as well, delete those entries in the app before you delete your account, or ask the owner to.
Either way, whoever is left in the portfolio may still have a copy on their own phone from before you left, until they next open the app.
If you were invited but never made an account
If someone sent you an invitation and you never joined, there is no account to delete. We do still hold the invitation, which carries the email address it was sent to and the name of the portfolio. Email us and we will delete it.
Deleting one thing instead of your whole account
You do not have to delete your account to get rid of something. Any asset, liability, income source or expense can be deleted on its own inside the app, at any time, and it is gone from your portfolio when you do.
How long it takes
Your sign-in record goes immediately. The app then starts deleting your figures, and that usually finishes within a minute or two.
If you can still see anything of yours an hour later, tell us. That is a fault, not the normal wait, and we will fix it.
When you delete from inside the app we do not send a confirmation email, because there is no longer an account to send one to. If you want written confirmation, email us and we will send it.
Deletion is permanent. We cannot undo it, and we cannot get your figures back for you afterwards.
There is no download button in the app yet. If you want a copy of your figures before you delete, email us first and we will send you what we hold.
If something goes wrong
Email hello@myportfolioapp.com.au. Tell us what you asked for and what happened, and we will sort it out.
If we cannot resolve it between us, you can raise it with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, or with the fair trading or consumer affairs office in your state or territory. You can also take a matter to a court or consumer tribunal.
